EP 87: Suspense, Spontaneity and Surprise

If you know Jeremy + Audrey, you know they THRIVE off of adventure + spontaneity! Sure, we all need routine, but we also need newness. It is about finding that balance, stepping out of your comfort zone, and saying yes to moments along the journey.

Adventures make good stories and they teach you so much about who you are, who someone else is, and how your relationship responds to life and situations.

Our world today has over complicated and over saturated the truest form of adventure. We are constantly comparing our life to someone else’s and thinking we have to have the picture perfect adventure in order for it to be worth it. But that is not true at all!

Jeremy + Audrey live by the principle of spontaneity: living a life on edge and saying yes to the surprise + adventures of life. And every adventure should hinge on suspense, spontaneity and surprise.

Creative Tip: Jeremy and Audrey learned early in their marriage to expect something to go wrong on every adventure. That way, when the “wrong thing” happens, they can smile and claim it as “the thing,” and it keeps them from getting frazzled. This has especially proven helpful when they started traveling with kids. They just expect something to go wrong. When it does, they say to each other, “Well, this is the thing” and it prevents “the thing” from turning into conflict. If you plan for something to go wrong, you won’t be disappointed when it happens (because we all know that it will!)

Now, Get Creative: Share with each other how you would define an adventure. Start by asking these questions:

  • What makes for a good adventure?
  • What are some of the best adventures you have been on together already?
  • What is holding you back from saying yes to an adventure in your relationship?

Then talk through the lists of adventures within chapter 2 of Creative Love. Choose one you’re both interested in and make a plan to adventure together!
